The Alamo has fallen. With Goliad soon to be overrun, Houston is forced to make the painful decision to retreat in the face of a numerically superior enemy. With Mexican armies advancing and men deserting him at every turn. Houston has to keep the revolutionary spirit alive in these dark days of 1836, hoping to get a chance to turn the tide of war once and for all. Unable to match the Mexican forces toe to toe, Houston must keep retreating until his foe makes a mistake that he might be able to capitalize on. As he retreats east, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna follows in Houst...

After the fall of New Spain, the Mexican government wanted to bolster the population of its northern regions to protect its inner core from marauding parties of hostile natives and American filibusters. To rectify the problem, the Mexican government invited men such as Stephen F Austin to bring in loyal colonists from the United States to lay down roots in the region known as Texas. However, un...

Meanwhile, British Army reinf...

My beautiful home... Though it is being ruined by the cancerous out of control growth and expansion that has been happening over the past couple of years, our infrastructure is at the breaking point traffic is gridlocked everywhere every day even on back roads and they're a pretty serious accidents everyday because there's so many people here that don't know how to drive, drive recklessly on purpose, and look at their phones for all of the above... It's hard to get jobs here anymore because there are so many people here and everyone has to drive to Jacksonville for work, it seems like every time I leave the house another green space has been bulldozed for an ugly poorly constructed townhouse complex or apartment complex... They're draining swamps and wetlands and destroying ecosystems to put these s*** holes up that fall apart after a couple of years but people are still paying ridiculous prices to move into them, we once had the best school system in the state but no longer as our schools are massively overcrowded and there aren't enough teachers to go around, living here is so frustrating now... It feels like a close suburb of Orlando. Do not move here, we are not only full we are massively over full and we do not have room for you... If you move here you will not enjoy it I guarantee... St Augustine is full please go elsewhere.

Johnston did a poor job of issuing clear orders to his commanders and followed that up with poor staff work to ensure that his orders were properly executed. Even after Longstreet botched his assignment Johnston had a chance to redeem the blown battle plan with an attack down the Nine Mile Road but waited too long and missed an opportunity to unhinge the Union line at Seven Pines. Longstreet and Johnston subsequently lied in their reports and wrongly blamed Huger for the failure of Johnston's poorly managed battle.

It's not considered to be the oldest. It is the oldest European settlement in the United States. It was settled almost 50 years before the pilgrims even left Europe.

The colony at Pensacola was established before St. Augustine, however it failed and was abandoned. Later, it was reestablished. So, St. Augustine is the oldest "continuous" colony in the New World.

Born and raised and still residing about 1/2 a mile from downtown St. Augustine. Had my wedding at the Fountain of Youth. We also had THE first Thanksgiving mass in what is now the United States over half a century before the one at Plymouth Rock… But oddly enough, even going to school less than 4 1/2 miles from the landing site, I still celebrated Thanksgiving every year making pilgrim hats and Plains Indian feathered head dresses out of construction paper 😂

With advances in artillery, masonry fortifications were outdated as soon as they were built. Rifled guns could put a relatively high velocity shot in the same spot over and over. Bricks simply exploded or were torn loose. Timed air burst and contact shells were also seeing big improvements. Earth works and hidden batteries were the way forward in fortifications. A 24 pounder was considered a heavy gun pre civil war. By the end of the war, siege guns were pushing 100 pound or heavier projectiles.

Man, Halleck had some nerve coming after McClellan for being too slow during the Peninsula campaign, like he was better. Actually, considering it‘s actually Halleck who calls off the entire campaign after the Seven Days (isn‘t that what he does to his subordinates during the Corinth campaign as well?), he might arguably be worse. McClellan was cautious, but he does fight Lee repeatedly, comes out on top and plans to still go after Richmond. So, in this case, he‘s not totally paranoid for thinking Halleck may have sabotaged him, even if inadvertently.
